Join us for the May First Fridays Green Day Celebration on Friday, May 1 to enjoy an evening that invites you to step outside, slow down, and reconnect with the world around you. From tree climbing to biking, a community tree giveaway to an electric vehicle showcase, the night is full of ways to explore what it means to care for our shared home. You’ll find live music drifting through the streets, conversations that spark new ideas, and plenty of moments that feel like summer arriving early.

From 6–8 p.m. at Fables Books, we’re bringing the celebration indoors (while keeping the spirit very much alive) with a gathering of four local authors whose stories invite reflection, curiosity, and connection:

Karen B. Kurtz shares Sophia’s Gift, an award-winning and “utterly charming” historical picture book praised by Queen Camilla. Rooted in a true story from the American Civil War, it offers a rare glimpse into the lives of women and children during a time of upheaval—woven with themes of resilience, compassion, and the search for beauty in difficult seasons.

Mark A. Kurtz, in What Does Jesus Want?, offers a thoughtful and accessible invitation into conversations around faith, purpose, and living with intention in today’s world.

Kirsten L. Klassen brings The Jailer and His Daughter, a story that reimagines a powerful historical moment of courage, mercy, and unexpected grace.

Linda Hanstra shares Empty-Nest Joyride, a warm and encouraging reflection on life’s next chapter—full of heart, humor, and the gentle reminder that new adventures are always waiting just around the bend.
